Environmental law for the people The Great Lakes Environmental Law Center is a Detroit-based nonprofit that offers community education, policy support, and various legal services to address environmental, resource, & energy issues affecting communities in and around Detroit, all over Michigan, and throughout the Great Lakes region. We do so in partnership with law students.

Great Lakes Environmental Law Center Environmental Law for the People. Our Mission Every Michigander deserves to live in healthy vibrant neighborhoods with clean air to breathe safe water to drink communitycentered spaces to enjoy Michigans many natural treasures. Too often irresponsible polluters target disenfranchised communities and force them to live with unsafe levels of pollution that endanger the health of their community and environment. We work with communities impacted by racism and economic discrimination to utilize the power of the law to create effective strategies to hold polluters and government agencies accountable.
