Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve - Eastpoint, Florida Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve Visit The Reserves Nature Center The Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserves home is located at 108 Island Drive State Road 300 at Cat Point in Eastpoint Florida. Visitors enter along a winding nature path and learn about local habitat types. Exhibits and aquaria inside give them a sense of where they are in Florida and the ApalachicolaChattahoocheeFlint watershed. A coastal walk from the Nature Center to the shoreline gives further opportunities to learn about and enjoy the natural setting.

Island Life Did you know that the staff at the Apalachicola Estuarine Research Reserve also oversees the management of Little (Cape) Saint George Island. This uninhabited barrier island is only accessible by boat and contains nine miles of undeveloped beachfront, 2,300 acres of pine flatwoods, rosemary-oak scrub, salt marsh, freshwater wetlands and dunes. LSGI offers a tremendous variety of recreational opportunities including boating, kayaking, fishing, hiking, primitive camping, and wildlife viewing.

Help Baby Sea Turtles Find Their Way Baby sea turtles have started hatching on Saint George Island and will continue to emerge from nests through October. We are so lucky to share our beautiful beach with these rare and very endangered sea creatures. Baby sea turtles hatch at night in order to avoid daytime predators such as crabs and gulls.
