Hospital Hospitality House of Winston-Salem, also known as SECU Family House, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing affordable lodging and supportive care to adult patients and their families who travel to Winston-Salem, North Carolina, for medical treatment.

The organization offers a compassionate and comfortable alternative to expensive hotel rooms or hospital waiting areas, aiming to alleviate financial and geographical barriers that might prevent individuals from accessing necessary medical care. Guests are charged a nightly rate of $40, with financial assistance available to reduce costs for about 20% of families. The facility provides amenities such as transportation to and from hospitals, kitchen and dining facilities, laundry services, wireless internet, and opportunities for socialization or privacy.

History

SECU Family House was established in 2011 following a personal experience by its founders, Beth and Sandy Baldwin, who were inspired by their son's treatment at a similar facility in Pittsburgh. With significant community support and funding from donors like the State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) Foundation and the Richard J. Reynolds, III and Marie M. Reynolds Foundation, the house opened its doors to guests in September 2011.

SECU Family House serves over 4,000 families annually and has made a substantial impact on the emotional and psychological well-being of its guests, with 98% reporting positive effects and 100% feeling safe and secure. The house has helped thousands through its Family Assistance Fund and community programs.
