The Davis Enology & Viticulture Organization (DEVO) is a nonprofit organization based at the University of California, Davis, that serves the viticulture and enology community. Established to foster connections among students, the wine industry, and the broader community, DEVO provides a platform for education, engagement, and scholarship opportunities in the fields of viticulture, enology, and food science.

Mission and Activities

DEVO’s mission is to promote hands-on experiences and educational opportunities for students interested in viticulture and winemaking. The organization organizes various activities, including:

• Immersion Trips: DEVO coordinates affordable trips to various American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) in California, as well as international destinations each summer, allowing students to gain practical experience and insights into the wine industry.

• Scholarships: The organization offers scholarships for outstanding students pursuing international internships that provide practical experience during harvest seasons in global wine regions.

• Educational Events: DEVO conducts a weekly tasting club, VITIS, aimed at enhancing wine education. This club involves guest-led discussions exploring different varietals, wine regions, and styles.

• Courses and Seminars: The organization offers a one-unit winemaking seminar course (VEN190X) each spring, where industry professionals share insights and experiences with students.

• Fundraising Events: DEVO hosts fundraising events such as the Winkler Dinner, a six-course meal paired with alumni wines, which includes live and silent auctions to support its initiatives. The 24th annual Winkler Dinner is scheduled for May 24, 2025.
