A new study by physician researchers at The Hospital for Sick Children - SickKids, published in The New England Journal of Medicine, identifies novel genes associated with rare childhood diarrhea. This discovery enhances our understanding of gastrointestinal disease in early life, particularly rare and severe forms of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Unraveling the underlying pathology may pave the way for prevention strategies for gastrointestinal disorders, including IBD. In O‘ahu, we're supporting the Martha B. Smith Cancer and Infusion Center at Kapiolani Medical Center for Women & Children and The Queen's Medical Center - West O'ahu to ensure that more Hawaiians have access to the highest quality of care. "Hawai‘i residents facing cancer diagnoses should be able to access top-notch cancer care close to home, where family and friends can provide much-needed support," said Walter Panzirer, a Helmsley Trustee. To date, Helmsley has invested $88 million towards cancer care through our Rural Healthcare Program.
