A new study by physician researchers at The Hospital for Sick Children - SickKids, published in The New England Journal of Medicine, identifies novel genes associated with rare childhood diarrhea. This discovery enhances our understanding of gastrointestinal disease in early life, particularly rare and severe forms of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Unraveling the underlying pathology may pave the way for prevention strategies for gastrointestinal disorders, including IBD.
