Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS)

History

The Women's Transportation Seminar, now known as WTS International, was founded in 1977 by a pioneering group of women in the transportation industry. Initially, it focused on organizing luncheons and workshops, termed "seminars," which were considered acceptable educational activities for women at the time. These early efforts aimed to support and advance women's careers in a male-dominated industry.

Mission and Vision

WTS International is dedicated to shaping the future of transportation by advancing the careers of women in the industry. Its mission is to attract, sustain, connect, and advance women's careers to strengthen the transportation sector. The organization strives for equity and access for women and underrepresented groups in transportation, envisioning a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable transportation industry.

Programs and Activities

• Scholarships: The WTS Foundation offers scholarships to students pursuing transportation-related degrees. These competitive scholarships are awarded based on applicants' transportation goals, academic records, and relevant activities or skills.
• Mentorship: The WTS Mentor Match program is an online networking tool that connects mentors and mentees worldwide. This initiative supports professional development by facilitating career guidance and experience sharing.
• Research: WTS initiates, sponsors, and publishes research focused on advancing women in transportation. The organization collaborates with its extensive network of corporations, public agencies, associations, and educational institutions to achieve its goals.
