Happy Friday in Farmersville! This week we wanted to continue on with some memorials of our Farmersville WW1 and WWII Veterans. Some even have streets named after them. First photo, Cecil West Wilcoxson, U.S. Army, WWI. Cecil, a Farmersville native, was in the infantry. Wilcoxson street was named for his family. Second photo, Gilbert Robinson Hess, U.S. Army, WWII. Corporal Hess graduated from Farmersville High School and attended A & M College. He entered service December 1943, and was assigned to overseas duty June 1944. He served with General Hodges 1st Army. Gilbert was wounded in Germany, received the Purple Heart and recovered at Brooks General Hospital, Fort Sam Houston. Third photo, Floyd Jeffcoat, U.S. Navy, WWII. Floyd, a Farmersville resident, was an electrician on the USS Oyster Bay and served in the South Pacific. Fourth photo, Joseph A. Aston, Jr., U.S. Army, WWII. Major Aston entered service in March 1942, trained at Camp Roberts, CA. and served there. He also served with 3rd Army Headquarters at Fort Sam Houston and was commanding officer at headquarters company, 6th Army, in the Philippines. fifth photo, Cleo Stanford, U.S. Army Air Corps, WWII. Cleo, a Farmersville resident, was a member of US Army Flying Forces 17th Division. He was killed in a glider pilot training accident October 1, 1942. Sixth photo, Fred H, Cox, U.S. Army, WWII. Fred, a Farmersville resident, was a corporal in the Army. He entered the service October 1942 and received his training at Waco Army Air Field. He left for the European theater May 1944 as a carpenter 1st class and served in Belgium. Seventh photo, Willie Ercell Hunt, U.S. Army, WWII. “Bill” Hunt, a Farmersville resident, entered the service June 1941, trained at Indiantown Cap, PA. Overseas he served in Medical Detachment First Army. He was reported MIA in April 1945 and was POW in Germany. Later he was liberated and returned to the USA. Eighth photo, James D. Leech, Jr., U.S. Army, WWII. James graduated from Farmersville High School and entered service in November 1938. He trained at Camp Normoyle, TX and Ft. Warren, WY. He was with Air Transport Command in Canada. He retired in July 1, 1962. Ninth photo, Landrum W. Leech, U.S. Army, WWII. Landrum was a resident of Farmersville and Princeton. He was in the Military Police, Platoon 90th Division. The four Wisdom brothers (first photo) were Farmersville natives who served in WWII. Back left: Joe Baily Wisdom, U.S. Army, Pfc. Back right: James Herbert Wisdom, Sr., U.S. Army, Pfc. Front left: Cloyd C. Wisdom, U.S. Coast Guard. Front right: Billy Norman Wisdom, U.S. Navy, S/1C. Second photo is of Jesse Ray Gaddy, U.S. Army, WWII. Jesse, a private in the Army, was a member of an old Farmersville family. Gaddy’s shopping center across from Farmersville High School and Gaddy Street is named for his family. His death on January 11, 1946, was related to injuries received in Europe during WWII. Third photo: Robert D. Burnett, U.S. Army, WWII. Robert, a Farmersville resident, entered the Army in July 1943. He trained at Camp Walters, TX, Monterey, CA, and Fort Smith, AR. In 1989 the Bain Honaker House was donated to the historical society in public trust. Today we use the home to educate people on the founding people of Farmersville TX and their way of life from the mid19th century through WWII. Membership Membership Matters.
