Virtuous Women in Sisterhood Inc.

Virtuous Women in Sisterhood Inc. is a faith-based, nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering, encouraging, and restoring women, families, and communities affected by domestic violence and homelessness. Founded in 2006 by Mrs. Kim Wells, the organization operates as a 501(c)(3) entity.

History

Mrs. Wells, a survivor of domestic violence herself, established Virtuous Women in Sisterhood after escaping an abusive relationship that lasted over ten years. During her journey, she met others who were also trying to flee similar situations, including Vicky Anderson, and with their support, began helping other women stabilize their lives and heal from abuse. The organization's mission is motivated by Mrs. Wells's experiences and her determination to prevent others from going through similar struggles alone.

Mission and Vision

The organization's mission is threefold: to lead, love, and support one another with optimism, guided by the belief that goodwill prevails. Its vision is for all women to be able to act in their lives, within their families, and in their communities. Virtuous Women in Sisterhood firmly believes that anything lost can be fully restored and that communities can come together to address the challenges faced by survivors.

Programs and Services

The organization provides several key services:

  • Safe Stays: Providing a safe environment for those fleeing abuse.
  • Utility Assistance: Offering short-term financial aid for essential needs.
  • Housing Application Fees: Assisting with initial costs for new housing.
  • Peer Support: Offering a community of support from peers who have experienced similar situations.
  • Referrals: Connecting survivors with necessary services for recovery.
  • Vocational and Financial Literacy Training: Equipping survivors with skills to manage finances and find employment.
Purpose and Impact

Virtuous Women in Sisterhood is more than just an organization; it functions as a community and family for survivors. The goal is to help women in abusive relationships take action in their lives, love and support each other, and overcome the challenges they face. By fostering a culture of optimism and collective support, VWISH aims to empower women to rebuild their lives and make a positive impact in their families and communities.
