Our Kids Read: Sparking the Joy of Reading in K-5th Grade Students

Our Kids Read donates diverse books to K-5th grade schools across the US and provide literacy tutoring services to students in our partners schools. Our Kids Read is a MD 501c3 non-profit dedicated to putting diverse books in front of the youth of today and tomorrow to support positive self-identication and combat racism, prejudice and stereotypes.

Providing Remote Reading Help and Diverse Books for K5th Grade Students The United States in the midst of a literacy crisis made worse by the coronavirus pandemic from 2020 2022. Prepandemic literacy rates in AfricanAmerican Hispanic and Indigenous communities were already low sometimes as low as 3040 the percentage 3rd graders who were reading at or above a 3rd grade level. In our 2022 postpandemic work literacy statistics are even more troubling. In many schools across the country literacy rates in BIPOC communities are currently between 15 25 rage.
