J.L. Long Zoo Crew

The J.L. Long Zoo Crew is a nonprofit organization based in Dallas, Texas, dedicated to empowering middle school youth to become conservation leaders by addressing animal conservation issues. This program focuses on providing educational experiences related to various animal species and their habitats.

Mission and Activities

The Zoo Crew program operates on the campus of J.L. Long Middle School, where members care for a diverse group of animals, including pythons, iguanas, bunnies, turtles, and bearded dragons. The club has a collection of 13 to 16 animals depending on the source. By participating in the daily care of these animals, students learn about their needs and habitats, fostering a passion for conservation and wildlife protection.

Membership and Participation

Membership in the Zoo Crew involves regular early morning meetings before the school day. Participants are expected to maintain high academic grades and exhibit respectful behavior, reflecting the organization's commitment to both education and animal welfare. Members can also continue animal care outside of school during holidays and summer breaks.

Educational Impact
