OUR HISTORY The Chino Fairgrounds began in 1942 as a camp for housing laborers working on WPA projects in the Chino area. The facility was also used as a German POW camp housing as many as 500 prisoners. In April 1945 the camp became a subdepot to the Pomona Ordnance Depot. By May a fire erupted resulting from an explosion on the site.
