What is PEM/PESE? Post-exertional malaise (PEM), also called post-exertional symptom exacerbation (PESE), refers to the worsening of symptoms following even minor physical, mental or emotional effort. Post-exertional malaise is an entirely unique finding in ME/CFS. *While post exertional fatigue or pain may be present in other conditions, we feel it is not the same as the unique nature of PEM in ME/CFS. As research progresses, the distinctions may become more clear. We know how hard it is to explain PEM/PESE to your provider—and how often it’s misunderstood. That’s why we created a seven-part video series to validate your experience and help others understand. Follow Drs. Bateman and Yellman as they break down what’s happening in the body during PEM/PESE and offer practical advice on how to avoid the push-crash cycle. Watch the full series here: https://bit.ly/3ZLi9WS And don’t forget to share it with your doctor or care team. #MECFS #PEM #PESE #LongCOVID #ChronicIllnessAwareness Open Medicine Foundation (fb)
