Huge congratulations to the youth artists who designed this mural for Transform Burien! 🙌✨ 🎨 The mural, was created at Innovation Heights Academy and we wanted to say a big thanks for the tech tools available at the school, each student was able to design their own element and contribute to the final piece in real time. ✨🎉 It’s official — the final mural at Olympic Hills Elementary is installed! Huge congratulations to the 5th grade class of 2025 and Teaching Artist Jocelyn Oats for creating a mural the whole school can enjoy! 🐉🎭🌊 “Olympic Hills Elementary is a school dedicated to the education and practice of social justice. To honor this commitment, I alongside their 2025 5th grade class have created a mural that emphasizes pillars of social justice while inviting fun and creativity to their environment. The mural is designed from sky to sea with mythological creatures creating a plaque that embodies Diversity and Inclusion. The mesoamerican (Aztec) dragon Quetzalcoatl blows a strong wind moving the banner as Manticore (Greek/Indian) and Kitsune (Japanese) paint some of the letters on land. As we look beneath the surface an arctic Narwhal uses their horn to stencil the letters as Yemoja (Mami Wata from Africa) holds a palette for collaboration. An otter (OHE's mascot) rests in gratitude and a peaceful dove swoops in to bring it all together. Subtle elements of leaves and fish remind us of community and the vibrant color scheme is to represent us all.
