Happy Birthday to our incredible board member-at-large, Ashleigh! Ashleigh’s “why” for building Fort Kids comes from a deep and personal place, and it speaks to so many parents in our community. Here’s what she shared: “As much as kids need Fort Kids Children’s Museum to learn, grow, and develop, adults in our community need it too. Parenthood can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also feel isolating. I experienced postpartum depression as a new mom, and one of the few bright spots in those early days was taking my baby to story time at the Fort Smith Public Library. It gave me a reason to take a shower, get dressed, and do something meaningful with my child. Most importantly, it connected me with other parents who were walking the same path. We want to build Fort Kids to be that kind of place, safe, joyful, welcoming space where kids can be kids and grown-ups can connect, breathe, and belong. Whether it’s through shared play, community events, or simply the chance to talk with another adult while their child explores, we envision a museum that supports the whole family. I believe when families thrive, our whole community gets stronger.” Ashleigh’s vulnerability and vision are at the heart of why this museum matters.
