Today, on National Maritime Day, we recognize the brave heroes of the U.S. Merchant Marines, whose courage and service have supported our nation in times of peace and war. From delivering essential supplies across the seas during WWII to continuing critical missions today, the Merchant Mariners have always answered the call. This #WarriorWednesday, we recognize not one, but two heroes, U.S. Army Rangers SSG Charles Bowen and SGT Ty Able, who risked their lives during a nighttime raid to save their fellow Rangers in one of the most extraordinary displays of courage and combat medicine in recent history. Under heavy fire, they pulled wounded teammates to cover and treated multiple injuries, including giving emergency blood transfusions, and preforming a battlefield cricothyroidotomy - a rare surgical procedure to help a fellow Ranger breathe. They refused to leave anyone behind. For over two hours, Bowen and Able stayed calm, focused, and brave - making sure every one of their teammates had a fighting chance to make it home. Because of their courage and determination, three Rangers are alive today. The Ranger creed states, "I will never leave a fallen comrade," and these two heroes are the living embodiment of that statement. Today, we salute you. (fb)
