June is here and so is a full dose of dog training for many of us that own these magnificent hunting companions. NAPS Calendar Spotlight Story for this month of June belongs to our Vice President, Adam Mayo and his boy Tall Timber’s Backwater “Deacon”. Adam and Deacon have been a team for over 8 years now and know the importance of training foundation that are built this time of year. NAPS hopes that you are spending time with your hunting buddy and that you enjoy this Spotlight Story courtesy of Adam and Deacon. I know it’s supposed to be story for the June calendar spot light but it’s more a thank you than anything. From day one Deacon has loved the bird game more than anything else. His willingness to work, drive, and desire to hunt has always impressed me. Whether in frozen fields North Dakota or blistering Texas heat, he’s always been ready to work. This work and drive has lead us down roads I would never have traveled alone. From NAVHDA events, HRC test, chasing all kinds of birds, and the meeting some amazing people along the way this has turned into an incredible ride. So I guess in a way I owe all that to a big, brown, goof ball of a hunting machine named Deacon and all the people that have made it possible along the way. Thank you guys! He’ll be 9 this year and he’s not as quick as he used to be but the “want to” is still there. While sometimes It seems like just yesterday we were taking him on his first duck hunt, in other ways it seems like forever from all the memories and miles. With that being said, time creeps up too fast with a good dog. Slow down, take the picture, and enjoy the moment! We’ve been able to have some incredible memories and meet so amazing people on this journey. And for those wondering this picture is a of our annual Arkansas duck opener. (fb)
