Good Cat Network

The Good Cat Network is a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to rescuing and relocating feral cats from Hawai'i to the mainland United States for adoption. The organization aims to reduce the number of community cats in Hawai'i by socializing them and finding them loving homes.

History and Founding

The Good Cat Network was founded by Amber and Darlene, who recognized the need for organized cat rescue and relocation efforts in Maui, where cat colonies are prevalent and local shelters are often overwhelmed. Amber started a Facebook group in 2019 to connect cat lovers on the island, which quickly grew into a network of volunteers. Darlene, with her experience managing a backyard cat colony and practicing Trap-Neuter-Return Management (TNRM), joined forces with Amber to expand their efforts into a full-fledged nonprofit.

Adam, Amber's husband, also played a crucial role in conceptualizing the organization's unique approach to cat rescue. He proposed flying adoptable cats from Hawai'i to shelters on the West Coast, leveraging his background in aviation to facilitate this process. This collaboration ultimately led to the establishment of the Good Cat Network.

Mission and Programs

The organization's mission is to remove as many cats as possible from feral cat colonies and place them into loving homes, primarily through a program called Operation Aloha Cat. This initiative involves partnering with rescue organizations and airlines to transport cats to the mainland United States, where they are adopted by new families.

By relocating these cats, Good Cat Network not only alleviates the burden on Hawaiian shelters but also helps protect Hawaii's fragile ecosystem. Feral cats can threaten native and endangered species, so by removing them from the landscape, the organization contributes to conservation efforts in the region.
