🪷 As Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month comes to a close, we want to uplift a question often posed by Chinese American philosopher, Black Power activist, and movement ancestor Grace Lee Boggs: What time is it on the clock of the world? 🪷 Boggs did not mean this literally, but rather offered it as a radical reckoning of time in the context of our collective responsibility to the planet we inhabit. She would also follow up this question with, "What would Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, and James Boggs do?" Her invocation of three revolutionary Black men, one who was her life partner, was not a coincidence. For her, and her invitation to us, the times we live in are inextricably connected to the leadership of people in liberation struggles. And so how are we to change the course of our present political moment and these conditions we find ourselves in, following in their footsteps? "We have the power within us to destroy all living things on this planet," Boggs declared, "but we also have the power within us to create the world anew. And that, I think, is what each of us needs to live with 24/7." (fb)
