Description

Ashland County Wildlife Conservation League

The Ashland County Wildlife Conservation League is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the conservation of wildlife and the promotion of legitimate hunting and fishing practices. Established with a mission to protect and propagate fish and game, the league also focuses on enforcing laws that safeguard these species and promoting trespass laws to protect members' properties.

Mission and Activities

The league's primary objective is to foster a harmonious relationship between sports enthusiasts and wildlife by promoting legal hunting and fishing activities. It works to create legislation that protects natural resources and wildlife, and it supports property rights for its members and others interested in wildlife conservation. Key activities include hosting annual events, such as fish fries and Kids Days, and organizing clubs like the Muzzleloader and Bow Hunter clubs.

Funding and Structure

The organization is funded through memberships, barn rentals, donations, and special events. As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, donations to the league are tax deductible. Financial reports indicate that the majority of its revenue comes from program services. The league operates with no executive compensation for its officers, reflecting its non-profit nature.

History and Impact

Founded by several visionaries, including G.J. Baxter, L.G. Shenberger, H.F. Martin, and B.F. Donley, the league has been active for over 97 years. Its efforts contribute significantly to the preservation of wildlife and the environment in Ashland County. By hosting clubs and events, it promotes a culture of responsible outdoor engagement.

Leadership

Carmen Holsinger serves as the president of the Ashland County Wildlife Conservation League. Other key positions include a vice president, secretary, treasurer, and several board members, all of whom are unpaid.

Conservation Efforts

The league manages areas for fishing, with catch-and-release policies to ensure sustainable conservation practices. It also closes its facilities to ensure compliance with local regulations and community standards, emphasizing safety and environmental stewardship.
