Central City Neighborhood Council
The Central City Neighborhood Council (CCNC) is a 501(c)(3) community organization established in 1972. It is recognized as the first such organization in Salt Lake City, Utah, and aims to advocate for residents within its boundaries while promoting civic engagement in the city.
Purpose and Operations
CCNC is a volunteer-run organization with executive board elections held annually. Its meetings are open to the public, and residents who attend at least one meeting may be considered members. The council relies on tax-deductible donations to operate.
Boundaries
Central City's boundaries extend from South Temple to 1300 South and from State Street to 700 East. This includes parts of ZIP codes 84111, 84102, and a small area of 84105. Notably, the area between 900 South and 1300 South also falls under the Liberty Wells Community Council, allowing residents in this zone to belong to either or both councils.
Community Engagement
CCNC plays a crucial role in engaging residents with community development and city policies. Salt Lake City encourages such community organizations to provide input and recommendations to city departments, fostering stronger, more unified neighborhoods.
Historical Context
The Central City neighborhood is one of Salt Lake City's oldest developed areas, influenced by the early development patterns based on the "Plat of the City of Zion," devised by Joseph Smith. The area features historic buildings, including adobe structures, and is home to the Central City Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
EIN and Registration
The Central City Neighborhood Council operates with the Employer Identification Number (EIN) 870296460, officially registering it as a nonprofit entity.
