History
Founded in 1922 at Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania, by Dr. Henry Ward Church and members of his language department, Phi Sigma Iota initially focused on fostering a sentiment of amity between cultures with differing languages. Over the years, Phi Sigma Iota has grown significantly, merging with Alpha Zeta Pi in 1935 and expanding internationally with its first chapter outside the U.S. at Universidad Regiomontana in Mexico in 1982.
