Kizuna Little Tokyo Inc.
Overview

Kizuna Little Tokyo Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving and promoting Japanese American culture and heritage. Founded in 2011, the organization is based in the historic Little Tokyo district of Los Angeles, California.

Mission

Kizuna's mission is to build a future for the Japanese American community by educating, empowering, and engaging the next generation. Through a variety of programs, they foster cultural awareness, leadership skills, and community engagement among youth and young adults.

Programs and Activities

The organization offers a diverse range of cultural programs designed to educate participants about Japanese American culture. One of their notable programs is a summer camp for students from 2nd to 8th grade, featuring activities such as mochitsuki (traditional rice cake-making), Japanese calligraphy, and field trips to museums. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Kizuna adapted by offering virtual programs, including storybook readings focused on Japanese American and Asian American stories, culture, and traditions. In 2022, they resumed their in-person summer camps with themes centered around traditional Japanese festivals.

Impact and Growth

Since its inception, Kizuna has engaged approximately 10,000 youth and young adults through its Program Pipeline, which spans from age seven through adulthood. The organization continues to grow, expanding its reach to serve new audiences across Southern California.

Structure and Operations

As a legitimate nonprofit, Kizuna submits annual Form 990 reports and ensures transparency in its operations. The organization is staffed by a team of dedicated professionals committed to preserving and sharing Japanese American culture with the younger generation.
