River Delta Fire District hosted a Fireline EMT/Paramedic course over the weekend. Firefighters from the greater Bay Area attended. On day two we had the opportunity to have the Sac Metro Helicopter provide an operational safety briefing, information on patient packaging and extraction and an overview of capabilities which consists of aerial firefighting, paramedic level patient care and rescue services as well water rescue. They are a top notch organization! Fireline EMT/Paramedics are crucial for providing medical support on the front lines of wildfires, working in challenging conditions and utilizing their EMS skills to manage injuries and illnesses. This course covered necessary information for EMTs and Paramedics to function as a single resource on wildland fires. Course topics included typical emergencies on the fireline, equipment needs, interface with the fireline personnel, emergency evacuations, wildland safety considerations, navigation and Fireline EMT responsibilities.
