Only 11 years old and already making history! Preston's artificial heart valve, placed when he was a baby, needed to be replaced. Our team took a donor heart valve and replaced his artificial one with it. This new valve will grow with him, meaning less surgeries, less medication and more time being a normal kid! (fb)

Meet Tricia! 👋 She loves helping others as a Unit Communications Associate (UCA) on 4Main. Her interest in healthcare developed early on but her initial career path didn’t follow that trajectory. Long ago,​ as a make-up artist, a client was diagnosed with cancer. Throughout their interactions, the client expressed Tricia was in the wrong profession. With her delicate care and compassionate demeanor, she was a perfect fit for the medical field. Tricia brushed it off, but those words stuck with her. As they say, the customer is always right. After multiple instances where colleagues and friends encouraged her to consider healthcare, she found herself applying for a medical assistant job and eight years later she was at Children’s National. She began here in​ 2010 performing administrative tasks. Tricia said she had the honor of watching the miracles nurses made each day for patients and families, slowly having the desire to make the same impact herself. She enrolled in nursing school and after many long days and nights working and studying, she has completed her education. Tricia begins her residency in our Emergency Department where she’s excited to thrive. Overall, she attributes her success to the support of the Conway Program and encouraging managers and mentors. Through that program, she was supported financially, emotionally and intellectually. (fb)
