Do you know what a rescue does? Do you know what happens when a dog goes there? Do we all just say rescue thinking it must be better than a shelter? A rescue is so much more than shelter for an animal. So here is what happens. A dog is in need for whatever reason, death of his humans, unfortunate humans, all kinds of bad care or in some instances the humans have to say goodbye to their family pet, for many different reasons. Sometimes people surrender their pet, some times the animal ends up in a shelter and sometimes the rescue will go pick up the dog from various places other than a shelter. Then what happens? VOLUNTEERS HAPPEN. Volunteers for transport, Volunteers for foster care, Volunteers for outreach and events. Most rescues are non profit 501 c3 and are run by donations and volunteers. Okay back to the dog in need. He is picked up by people who want to help him, transported to his destination and sometimes this means several car rides and every once in a while a plane ride. He then arrives at his destination and is greeted by people who want to help him. Next she goes to foster care where people want to help her. She will stay in foster care for an undetermined amount of time. (not all dogs need the same thing). FOSTERS YES! In foster care she will be vetted, fed, played with and will receive a small amount of training. Most of all she will be shown love and kindness. She will meet new people and and new dogs. She will learn to trust or continue to trust. She may even get to go on outings, shown off at an event and she will fur sure get her picture taken. Rescues all need fosters to help other animals! Wouldn't it be nice to save a life by giving him or her a temporary home. Then one day he is announced to the world or as far as social media will take him. This is done by Volunteers, shocking I know. It doesn’t stop there. People call and say he/ she is the one I want or they follow a post and comment. Next comes the application process. Yes, you must fill out an application and yes it’s intimidating. Remember these volunteers want the very best lives for these animals. Your references will be called, your home will be checked and your yard must be in tip top shape. This is not a test but..... yeah it is. APPROVED. You have been approved by all the volunteers that want to help this animal. You are very lucky and so is your new family pet. Please, if you are ever considering posting an add, or surrendering your animal to a shelter, consider a local rescue. We volunteers want what’s best for your animal.
