In Pennsylvania, only one in five individuals who is medically qualified for hospice care receives it. Half of those people receive it too late to appreciate its full benefits. The reason for this disparity, as shown in a report from the PA Dept. of Aging (End of Life Care in PA, May 2005) is not a lack of available service, but a lack of information and understanding about the nature and purpose of this palliative, holistic, family-centered care discipline. Presently serving the 5-county area (Philadelphia, Bucks, Montgomery, Chester and Delaware counties), our mission is to increase awareness and understanding of the scope and benefits of hospice care, and to encourage healthcare providers and the diverse population at large to accept and embrace it as the means of achieving the best possible quality of life for both individuals who have limited life expectancy and their families.
