—Est. 2009— Silicon Valley African Film Festival is a showcase of Africa's seasoned first-voice Filmmakers whose works reflect the true stories of Africa. A showcase of film makers whose works reflect the true stories, hopes and dreams of Africa Aptly themed Africa through the African lenses, the Silicon Valley African Film Festival (SVAFF) promotes an understanding and appreciation of Africa and Africans through moving images by providing seasoned and emerging story tellers from the continent and its diaspora a platform to share their authentic stories on own terms. The Film Festival was founded to confront the sad reality that after over 60 years of post-colonial rule in Africa, the dominant stories of African ancestry people are still told through lenses that are far removed from our realities. For African filmmakers, substantive issues of the day are more common concerns than escapist and sensationalist fares. In this, African cinema challenges dominant media's complex networks of ignorance, prejudices and stereotypes.
