The Ancient Free & Accepted Masons of Missouri, commonly referenced by their parent organization the Grand Lodge of Missouri, form a part of the broader Masonic community in the United States. History

Freemasonry in Missouri began with the establishment of the Louisiana Lodge № 109 in St. Genevieve in 1807. This was followed by the founding of other early lodges, including Saint Louis Lodge № 111 in 1808, which involved notable figures like Meriwether Lewis. The Grand Lodge of Missouri was officially formed on April 21, 1821, as Missouri was on the cusp of joining the United States.

Structure and Operations

The Grand Lodge of Missouri is one of two statewide Masonic organizations in Missouri; the other being a Prince Hall Affiliated grand lodge. The Grand Lodge has been instrumental in various initiatives, including the establishment of the Missouri Masonic College in 1847, which operated until 1859, and the creation of the Masonic Home of Missouri, which was dedicated in 1889. The Home originally located in St. Louis, now operates a facility in Springfield and another in Kansas City, providing support for Masons, their families, and widows.

Prominent Members

Missouri Freemasonry has been enriched by notable figures such as President Harry S. Truman, who served as Grand Master from 1941 to 1942, and Samuel L. Clemens, better known as Mark Twain. Other prominent individuals include Charles Lindbergh and J.C. Penney.

Philanthropy

The Ancient Free & Accepted Masons of Missouri focus significantly on philanthropic efforts, with the Masonic Home being a cornerstone of these initiatives. The organization raises funds and encourages donations to support these charitable activities. Additionally, local lodges throughout the state engage in community service and educational programs.

Mission and Philosophy

The mission of the Ancient Free & Accepted Masons of Missouri aligns with the broader principles of Freemasonry: promoting brotherly love, relief, and truth through a system of moral and philosophical education. This is achieved through rituals, lectures, and community service activities designed to foster personal growth and societal improvement.
