Friends of Haiku Stairs
A nonprofit group formed in 1987 whose goal is to save Ha'ikū Stairs and the surrounding 'āina. OUR MISSION IS TO PROTECT THE HISTORIC HAIKU STAIRS (AN 81-YEAR-OLD METAL STAIRCASE) AND ITS SURROUNDING ENVIRONMENT FOR CURRENT AND FUTURE GENERATIONS. SINCE 1987 WE HAVE MAINTAINED THE STRUCTURE AND PROTECTED NEARBY ENDEMIC PLANTS AND SPECIES USING ALL-VOLUNTEER LABOR AND WITH THE SUPPORT OF PRIVATE DONATIONS.

They are currently at risk of demolition and our organization is doing everything we can to stop that from happening. Although the City gave a formal blessing to begin demolition in April 2024 we successfully fought and received an injunction pending our ongoing lawsuit.
