Center for Redemptive Education

Join us on the quest to align with God's design for teaching and learning... We exist to articulate, cultivate, demonstrate and facilitate an approach to education that is Biblical, Relational, Integral and Experiential. We equip teachers, parents, schools and other educators in their quest to align with God's design for teaching and learning by means of Redemptive Education. Workshops, retreats, conferences, publications, outdoor education programs and reading programs comprise our typical services.

The Center for Redemptive Education is a nonprofit organization dedicated to aligning teaching and learning with what it defines as God's design. Registered in the United States with EIN 81-3840374, this educational nonprofit operates programs and curricula primarily aimed at children from preschool through eighth grade, fostering a Christ-centered educational approach[1][2][3].

Mission and Educational Philosophy

The Center for Redemptive Education seeks to articulate, cultivate, demonstrate, and facilitate educational practices that are Biblical, Relational, Integral, and Experiential. Their approach embraces a model of "Redemptive Education," which encourages holistic learning by inviting children into joyful exploration of God's Word and creation. Their curriculum supports what they call "integral study," a lifelong process appreciating the unity and wonder of God's creation, emphasizing cooperation with God's design for teaching and learning[2][4].

The organization bases its teaching on the historic Christian faith, described by C. S. Lewis as "Mere Christianity." It respects differences among Christians on secondary theological matters while maintaining fidelity to clear biblical teachings such as the sanctity of human life and the design of male and female[4].

Programs and Services

The Center offers several programs and resources to support educators, parents, and students:

  • Campus Programs: Educational programs for children ages 4 through eighth grade that use the Redemptive Education curriculum.
  • Homeschool Support: Including the "Scent of Water" learning community, a primarily outdoor education program serving homeschool families with a focus on connecting children to God's story and work.
  • Teacher Certification: Training and certification programs for teachers and homeschooling parents interested in Redemptive Education principles.
  • Consulting and Speaking: Educational consulting and speaking engagements, primarily provided by the organization's founder.
  • Community Initiatives: Efforts to start local Redemptive Education programs and foster networks of Redemptive Educators, including international consultation.
  • Conferences and Retreats: Events aimed at equipping educators and parents with Redemptive Education philosophies and practices.
  • Resources: Including books, essays, music compositions, and videos developed to support their educational mission[2].

Class sizes in programs average about eight students, promoting relational and individualized learning experiences[4].

Leadership

Amy Imbody, M.Ed., is the founder, president, and board chair of the Center for Redemptive Education. She has authored works such as Wind from the Sea: Essays in Redemptive Education, sharing insights into the organization's philosophy and educational aims[1][2].

Tax and Legal Status

The Center for Redemptive Education is registered as a tax-exempt educational nonprofit organization under U.S. law. Donations to the Center are tax deductible. It is classified under educational services and schools, reflecting its primary mission to provide educational activities and resources consistent with its faith-based framework[5].

The Center for Redemptive Education represents a distinctive approach to Christian education, aiming to integrate faith and learning deeply while supporting families and educators in a relational, experiential environment rooted in biblical principles.
