Blankets of Honor
Blankets of Honor is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Pennsylvania that was established in February 2021. It is a veteran-owned organization that operates with the primary mission of honoring veterans, Gold Star families, first responders, and their supporters.
History
The idea for Blankets of Honor originated in 2019 among members of the Marietta Legion Riders, Chapter 466. The initiative was formally launched in January 2020, starting with a presentation to a Vietnam Navy Veteran. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the organization managed to present nearly 40 blankets to deserving recipients in its first year.
Mission and Activities
Blankets of Honor aims to convey the message "You are not forgotten" to veterans by recognizing their service and sacrifices. The organization conducts in-person presentations where recipients are gifted with a patriotic blanket, a challenge coin, a certificate, and additional informational materials. These ceremonies serve as a reminder to veterans that they have a support system and are appreciated for their contributions.
Funding and Operations
The organization relies entirely on donations and volunteer efforts to carry out its mission. Blankets of Honor uses merchandise sales and community donations to support its activities, ensuring that all members work on a volunteer basis.
Leadership and Structure
The leadership team includes veterans and individuals dedicated to supporting veterans. Notable leadership roles are held by veterans who have served in different branches of the U.S. military.
Impact and Outreach
Blankets of Honor seeks to honor and support veterans by acknowledging their sacrifices and ensuring they feel valued. The organization's initiatives contribute to a broader community of support for veterans and first responders across the United States.
