California Coastkeeper Alliance (CCKA)
The California Coastkeeper Alliance (CCKA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating for swimmable, fishable, and drinkable waters across the state of California. It acts as a unified voice for various Waterkeeper programs throughout California, working collaboratively to develop, implement, and defend policies that support the needs of California's communities and ecosystems.
Mission
CCKA's primary mission is to ensure that California's waters are preserved for future generations. It focuses on influencing Sacramento decision-makers through the use of law, policy, science, partnerships, and creative communications. By unifying local Waterkeepers, CCKA advances water and ocean priorities that promote environmental stewardship statewide.
Activities and Impact
The organization works closely with local Waterkeeper groups to raise awareness about water-related issues and to advocate for sustainable environmental policies. CCKA also engages in initiatives aimed at restoring the health of California's coastal waters and ecosystems, often in collaboration with government agencies and other environmental organizations.
Role in Advocacy
CCKA plays a significant role in environmental advocacy within California, contributing to discussions on state and federal water policies. Its efforts often involve partnering with local communities, educating the public about the importance of clean water, and supporting research initiatives that inform environmental decision-making.
Affiliations
As a member of the broader Waterkeeper movement, CCKA collaborates with national and international organizations to address pressing environmental issues affecting California's marine ecosystems and water resources.
Notable Partner Organizations
One of its notable partner organizations is Orange County Coastkeeper, which has been recognized for its efforts in education, advocacy, and restoration in Orange County. However, the California Coastkeeper Alliance has a broader scope, focusing on statewide initiatives.
In summary, the California Coastkeeper Alliance serves as a critical component of environmental advocacy in California, leveraging its partnerships and expertise to protect the state's water resources for ongoing generations.

We are thrilled to announce that California Coastkeeper Alliance, The Otter Project, Monterey Waterkeeper, and Pebble Beach Company have formed a historic alliance to enhance the protection of water quality in the Carmel Bay. In coordination with our organizations, Pebble Beach Company will pursue a first-in-nation Clean Water Act Permit for discharges from Pebble Beach Golf Links into Carmel Bay. This effort includes increasing water quality monitoring and developing updated best management practices related to dry-weather and stormwater discharges, in addition to a $50,000 donation to the Big Sur Land Trust. This collaboration represents a significant advancement in our mission to protect California’s coastal waters, and we are committed to working with Pebble Beach Company to ensure the long-term health of the iconic Carmel Bay. Assembly Bill 1313 has passed Assembly Appropriations and heads to the Assembly Floor! The bill aims to clean up stormwater pollution from owners of large parking lots. The issue couldn’t be more timely, as a new study shows that Costco and Target parking lots in Humboldt County accumulate salmon-killing toxins in numbers well above the lethal limits to fish before flowing into the Bay. Thank you @asmdianepapan @asmbuffywicks and @caspeakerrivas for your leadership in keeping California water clean! (fb)
