The Northwest Center was founded in 1981 by alumni and students of Georgetown University, who responded to the urgent need for practical assistance for pregnant women and mothers with infants in the Washington DC area. Over the years, The Northwest Center has expanded and now includes two comprehensive programs: the pregnancy center and the maternity home. To date, The Northwest Center has helped over 25,000 women and children in the Washington DC area with emotional support and material assistance, as well as access to housing, pre-natal care, medical and legal services, short and long term counseling, educational opportunities, job training and child care.
