🚗✨ Welcome to #ThrowbackThursday – where we take a journey through Bar Harbor’s rich history! ✨🚗 Did you know the first way to reach the summit of Cadillac Mountain wasn’t by car, but by train? 🚂 In 1883, the Green Mountain Cog Railway carried visitors up the mountain, offering breathtaking views of Mount Desert Island. But by 1890, the railway ceased operations, leaving Cadillac’s summit inaccessible, until cars came along! By the late 1920s to early 1930s, automobiles like the Ford Model A, one of the most popular cars of its time, were making their way up the mountain on the newly constructed Cadillac Summit Road. Between 1925 and 1931, the Cadillac Summit Road was built, creating the 3.5-mile winding drive that we know today. This road was part of a broader initiative to increase accessibility to Acadia’s incredible landscapes, as motor tourism was booming across the U.S. 🌿🏞️ Though much has changed, one thing remains the same, driving to the summit of Cadillac Mountain is still an unforgettable experience! Who else loves this scenic route? #CadillacMountain #AcadiaHistory #BarHarborHistory #VisitBarHarbor #TBT (fb)

🛍️ This week, we’re highlighting a unique local business that brings something truly special to Bar Harbor: A LITTLE MAD SHOP - This curiously unique shop can be found at 17 Rodick Street, downtown that is owner run and operated. Featuring unique gifts and art that are colorful, whimsical and unexpected. Customer Favorite Artist Spotlights from Owners Patrick and Jolene: We are proud to be the exclusive home to "The Hidden World of Eloise”. Collectively Artist Eloise is telling the life story of the little girl featured in her works. She doesn’t share the story however - leaving it up to each viewer to create their own. This collection haunts viewers in the best possible way. We are also proud to be the exclusive home to Artist Houston Llew and his ‘Spiritiles’. Each piece are hand crafted using copper, glass and wood and feature beautiful images that are almost iridescent. Each also feature a quote that starts on the left side of the tile and finishes on the right. Each are not only beautiful but also share a unique sentiment and range of emotion. Discover A LITTLE MAD SHOP today! (fb)
