BEFORE & AFTER 🗑️ Volunteers cleaned up this site yesterday during the Alpena Community Cleanup. Improper waste management is a leading source of marine debris (trash in our water). Some tips for proper waste management: 1. Always Bag and Tie Trash Securely Loose trash can attract pests, create odors, and lead to marine debris if bags break. Use durable garbage bags and tie them tightly before disposal to contain waste effectively. 2. Keep Dumpster Lids Closed Open dumpsters invite animals, water, and wind-blown debris. Keeping lids closed helps control odors and prevents litter from escaping during storms or windy conditions. 3. Avoid Leaving Waste Outside a Dumpster Overflowing dumpsters not only look bad but can become a public health and environmental hazard. If a dumpster is full, notify the waste service provider or use designated overflow containers—never pile trash around the outside. These steps are vital for protecting our freshwater! (fb)
