Tennessee Cave Survey

The Tennessee Cave Survey (TCS) is an educational nonprofit organization focused on the exploration, discovery, and conservation of caves across Tennessee. It operates as an internal organization of the National Speleological Society (NSS).

Mission and Objectives

The organization offers grants, including the Lee White Memorial Grant, to support high-priority projects related to cave research and conservation in Tennessee. These grants can fund up to $1,000 twice annually, with potential consideration for larger or urgent requests. The grants are aimed at projects such as cave exploration, mapping, new technology development, and conservation efforts.

Eligibility

To be eligible for funding, applicants must ensure all necessary permissions are obtained from landowners, state and federal agencies. Projects must be completed within a year unless otherwise agreed, and recipients are required to report back to the TCS with project outcomes.

TCS publishes an annual publication, The Tennessee Caver, which shares research findings and project reports. This supports the organization's mission to educate the public and protect cave environments.
