Our dear friend Brian lost his son Keagan in 2021. Keagan Mac O'Connor was a prolific visual artist and musician, and loved nothing more than creating. Perhaps more importantly, he was a wonderful man who was kind, empathetic and compassionate. In his son's honor and memory, Brian has provided CAC with a series of higher end instruments - guitars he once purchased for Keagan to support his passion - to distribute to our most inspired student musicians since we first met in 2022. We call these KMO Guitars in honor of Keagan. The process of finding the right student isn't easy. We have SOOOO many kids who are truly leaving their mark on music these days, and passing on a legacy instrument is a big deal. Enter Rowan, who plays drums and guitar and in a band called Magic Mobile, and whose dad Dave plays bass for Truffle. He's been steeped in music since he was born and it shows in his interest and passion for his craft. We first saw Rowan sit in with Truffle at @revelinthemeadow Revel in the Meadow in 2023, and most recently playing with Magic Mobile at the CAC Student Art and Music Showcase, where he put his slide guitar skills on display, among his other talents. Rowan received a Gibson SG Blueberry Fade from CAC, Brian, and Keagan yesterday, an amazingly clean, versatile instrument that plays and sounds like a dream. That should be the story's end, but it's not. Before leaving, Rowan asked if he could donate his current Epiphone guitar back to CAC. "I'd like you to have this. I'm not going to need this anymore." This was a Keagan-esque display of generosity. I think we made the right choice. :) Long live rock and roll. Thanks for keeping the music flowing, Brian! We love you!
