Training for Life Program Inc. is a nonprofit organization based in the United States, recognized under the EIN 42702098. Established on October 4, 2001, in the aftermath of the September 11 attacks, the organization focuses on empowering individuals and communities through education and training with a particular emphasis on emergency preparedness.

Mission

History

Founded by Scott Caruthers, a service-disabled veteran of the United States Navy, Training for Life was initiated to bolster community emergency preparedness in response to the events of September 11, 2001. The organization quickly gained recognition, becoming an authorized Community Training Center for the American Heart Association (AHA) in 2005. Its early focus was on training local Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) in New York City.

Programs and Services

Training for Life offers a variety of training programs, primarily in first aid and emergency preparedness. Key programs include:

• CPR/AED & First Aid Training: The organization conducts comprehensive training for individuals and groups, responsible for training over a million people across various emergency preparedness courses.

• HeartSafe Heroes Program: This initiative aims to protect U.S. military veterans by providing Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and CPR training at locations frequented by veterans, such as American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) posts.

• Community Outreach: Through partnerships with local and international organizations, Training for Life has expanded its reach beyond the United States, assisting in placing AEDs in various locations, including Nigeria and the Caribbean.

• Training Center Services: The organization provides support to nearly 100 American Heart Association instructors, issuing thousands of course credentials annually and offering oversight services for AED programs.
