After a necessary pause to reflect, rebuild, and determine the best way forward, we can finally announce that Lapham’s Quarterly has found a new and distinguished home: Bard College’s Hannah Arendt Center for Politics and Humanities. The journey begins with the 2025 release of our long-awaited issue, “Energy,” which will feature the last Preamble that Lewis H. Lapham wrote before his passing. We are excited to share a significant development in the ongoing recovery efforts for Lapham’s Quarterly. Thanks to the extraordinary generosity and vision of Hawthornden Foundation, the Quarterly has been given a lifeline that promises a brighter future. The Hawthornden Foundation, now occupying the former Quarterly office, has expressed a sincere interest in honoring Lewis’s memory by establishing a permanent tribute featuring a plaque celebrating Lewis’s life and work, and personal items such as his typewriter and potentially his desk. The Foundation has also expressed an interest in preserving and cataloging LQ’s extensive library of literary and historical books, which would be accessible to researchers and scholars upon written request.
