The Vietnamese American Roundtable (VAR) envisions a strong and unified Vietnamese American community that works toward improving the quality of life for all. The mission of the Vietnamese American Roundtable (VAR), founded in 2013, is to organize, advocate, and educate our community. We accomplish this mission through three core activities: mobilization, advocacy, and education – mobilization through intentional coalition building; advocacy through empowerment and strategy; and education through organizing community panels, workshops, and cultural events.

Overview

The Vietnamese American Roundtable (VAR) is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization based in the United States. The organization envisions a strong and unified Vietnamese American community that works towards improving the quality of life for all its members.

Mission

VAR's mission is to mobilize, advocate for, and inform the Vietnamese American community about the critical issues that impact their lives. This mission is accomplished through building coalitions, strategic advocacy, and organizing meaningful community events. VAR comprises young professionals and representatives from various Vietnamese American community groups, working collaboratively to support programs and projects beneficial to the local community.

Composition and Activities

VAR is composed of individuals from various generations of Vietnamese Americans, allowing them to bridge both Vietnamese and American cultures and lifestyles. This inclusive approach enables them to bring diverse perspectives to community events and programs.

Programs and Events

  • Lunar New Year Celebrations: VAR organizes cultural events to promote community building and cultural understanding.
  • Annual Black April Commemoration: This event honors the history and experiences of Vietnamese refugees and immigrants.
  • Cơm Gia Đình Family Recipe Collection Project: Focuses on preserving cultural heritage through food and family recipes.
  • Voters’ Education: Works to inform the community about civic engagement and the importance of voting.
  • SEEDS (Student Engagement and Education for Development and Success): A summer program aimed at training future community leaders by engaging them in workshops, planning sessions, and community projects. The program addresses issues such as racial discrimination and anti-AAPI hate by equipping participants with advocacy skills and knowledge about community issues.

Leadership and Team

VAR's leadership includes individuals with a strong background in community service, social welfare, and cultural preservation. Members hold various roles, including president, vice president, and board members, each contributing to the organization's mission through their expertise and passion for community development.
