Medway Historical Society, Medway, MA Home Medway Historical Society Womens History Month In 1817 the women of the church organized the Female Charitable Society. The ladies wished to spend a portion of their time in an agreeable and useful manner for the promotion of several important objects. The name of the organization was changed to the Ladies Charitable Society in 1872 and in 1928 the Missionary Society merged with them to form the Womens Union. By the 1940s there were many active womens groups within the church.
