It's that time again: Hurricane season, which runs June to Nov. 30. While we hope for the best, last year's one-two punch of Helene and Milton taught us that preparing for the worst is vital. Here are handy tips, if you need them. Feel free to share yours. To prepare for a hurricane, focus on knowing your evacuation zone, securing your home, and building a hurricane kit with essential supplies. Evacuate if ordered, and stay indoors in a secure room during the storm, avoiding windows and glass. Evacuation and Sheltering: Know your evacuation zone and flood zone: Understanding these areas will help you plan your evacuation route and ensure your safety. Evacuate if ordered: Listen to official evacuation orders and leave when instructed. Shelter in place if you don't need to evacuate: If you are not in an evacuation zone, you may be able to stay in your home. Secure shelter indoors: During the storm, move to a small, windowless room on the lowest level of your home. Avoid windows and glass doors: Stay away from these areas, as they are vulnerable to damage. Hurricane Kit Essentials: Water: Store at least one gallon of water per person per day. Food: Keep a several-day supply of non-perishable food. Flashlight and extra batteries: Essential for staying safe during power outages. First-aid kit: Prepare for minor injuries and illnesses. Prescription medications: Ensure you have a supply of your medications. Battery-powered or hand-crank radio: Stay informed about weather updates and warnings. Cash: Banks and ATMs may be closed. Important documents: Keep copies of essential documents like insurance policies and medical records. Clothing and sturdy shoes: Prepare for potential debris and weather conditions. Sanitation supplies: Include items for cleaning and sanitation. Other Important Tips: Fill your gas tank: Keep your gas tank at least half full and plan your evacuation route. Limit electronics usage: Conserve battery power for critical communications. Listen for alerts: Stay informed about hurricane warnings and alerts. Avoid flooded areas: Stay out of areas with standing water. Do not walk through flowing water: Avoid dangerous currents. Avoid driving during the storm: Flooding and high winds can make driving unsafe. (fb)

Our First Project is almost a success. WKPG has met our commitment and provided 1. 5 Million to pinellas county so the county can create the west klosterman preserve. The county has committed to buy the preserve and will make it part of the mariners point management area so that this important slice of paradise remains a permanent home to the plants trees and animals that have always lived there.
