Exciting news! The Queen’s Medical Center in Honolulu received a generous $1.6M donation from The Leona M. and Harry B. Helmsley Charitable Trust to support the expansion of its life-saving Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO) Program! ECMO machines help patients whose lungs and heart are unable to function on their own. The machines pump and oxygenate the patient’s blood, allowing the lungs and heart to rest and recover. The $1.6M donation will allow us to purchase additional equipment, transition to a two-physician cannulation model, conduct a viability study to ensure responsible, sustainable growth for remote capabilities and neighbor-island expansion, and establish an Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO) Center of Excellence.
