SMIS is private PK-12 school founded in 1902 by Saint Katharine Drexel to provide Catholic educational opportunities for Native American children. St. Michael Indian School was founded in 1902 by Saint Katharine Drexel and serves PK-12 students. St. Michael Indian School provides students from local Native American communities with a quality education that is rooted in Catholic values, is sensitive to Native heritage, teaches leadership skills and enables students to contribute in a culturally diverse world. The school recently expanded to 2 to 4 year old preschool, and serves 320 students in Kindergarten through high school with the most recent graduating class graduating 34 students. The graduation rate is 96% with most going to college. 99% of the student body is Native American. 64% of students are receive free or reduced meals. The organization has 52% alumni faculty with most teachers having taught 3+ years.
