Today, we honor the lives of Addie Mae Collins, Denise McNair, Carole Robertson, and Cynthia Wesley, four little girls tragically taken in the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing in Birmingham, Alabama, on September 15, 1963. This horrific act of racial violence shocked the nation and became a turning point in the Civil Rights Movement, fueling the fight for justice and equality. As we say their names, we recommit to the ongoing fight to ensure that Black women and girls can live, learn, and worship in safety, free from the threat of violence.
