A little more history from Tom… The Iron News November 5, 1897, page 4, has a story of the still-new Edna G helping out in a storm. Large towing lines of either hemp fiber or manilla fiber were measured by their circumference rather than diameter. In this story, a 12 inch line is broken in a storm.
