A core part of who we are at Love the One is longevity. We are not here for the quick fix. We want to journey with our communities for the long haul. Our work at Love the One has never been about numbers, but about every child and their family. Vikas here is having his dialysis with our team supporting him every week. Many of you know that Vikas was first seen by Love the One clinic team many years ago when he was just 5 years old. We have had the pleasure of seeing Vikas through a number of emergencies relating to his spina bifida and shunt in his brain, including helping to save his leg from amputation as a young child, intensive care when he was critically unwell and unconscious with meningitis through to his ongoing battle with renal failure. He is on the list for a life saving kidney transplant but in the meantime is kept alive by having regular haemodialyasis. Community health care is more than a one off ‘medical camp’. It is all encompassing and stays on the journey with every child. Priceless. For Vikas, being with Love the One has been utterly transformative. Coming from an illiterate family, he was abke to have schooling with us and presently passed his 10th exams (GCSE equivalent). He has lifelong friends made, his parents have been employed for many years with us, and his sister also has had the opportunity of education. Vikas is a change maker and one of the kindest young men you could ever want to meet.
