The Flagg Mineral Foundation is a U.S. nonprofit organization dedicated to the promotion of earth sciences and mineral collecting. It was established in 1962, primarily by members of the Mineralogical Society of Arizona (MSA), as a memorial to Arthur Leonard Flagg, a prominent figure in Arizona's mineral history.

History and Mission

Arthur Leonard Flagg, a mining engineer and enthusiastic "rockhound," was instrumental in founding several mineralogical societies, including the MSA. His efforts to educate young and old about the economic importance and beauty of minerals earned him the title "Mr. Rockhound." The Foundation's initial goal was to establish an earth sciences museum in the Phoenix area, reflecting Flagg's long-held dream.

Activities and Events

The Flagg Mineral Foundation organizes several annual events to promote mineral collecting and education:

• A. L. Flagg Gem and Mineral Show: This event is one of the longest-running gem and mineral shows in Arizona, hosting dealers from across the U.S. with offerings of minerals, fossils, gemstones, and lapidary items.
• Minerals of Arizona Symposium: This annual symposium focuses on the mineralogy and localities of Arizona, featuring presentations from experts in the field.
• Field Trips and Mineral Collection: The Foundation also arranges local field trips and maintains a fine mineral collection that includes over 700 specimens, including some from the historic Colleen and Loris P. Woolery Collection.
