CTLR Home - Cattlemen's Texas Longhorn Registry

CTLR is devoted to conservation breeding practices to ensure the survival of this Critically Endangered heritage breed. Established in 1989 by seasoned breeders of traditional Texas Longhorn cattle, the CTLR was recognized in commerce in January 1990. Texas Longhorn Cattle of the highest quality shall always be the foremost priority of the Cattlemen’s Texas Longhorn Registry. It is the deliberate and formulated intent to: recognize and make known true Texas Longhorn Cattle as a distinct and unique breed; promote sound conservation breeding practices; preserve the purity of the breed; recognize breeders and encourage others to develop and maintain records and herds of high quality; promote the use of its naturally evolved unique gene pool; and support research and educational projects.

Our Mission Conserve the Original Texas Longhorn History shows us all the Texas Longhorns contribution to the Lone Star State. The breeds unique adaptability provided the muchneeded means of survival during Reconstruction through the postCivil War era. The key role Longhorn cattle played traveling the long trails North by the millions paved a way for Texas to become the economic leader it is today. Its hard to imagine any other animal having made as large an impact on its state as has the iconic Texas Longhorn.
