Fish Welfare Initiative
The Fish Welfare Initiative (FWI) is a U.S. nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the welfare of farmed fish. Founded in 2019, FWI is one of the first charities to focus exclusively on this issue.
Mission
The mission of FWI is to reduce the suffering of farmed fish by researching and executing evidence-based welfare interventions. They operate primarily in high-priority countries where fish farming is common, such as India, China, and the Philippines.

Alliance for Responsible Aquaculture
FWI runs the Alliance for Responsible Aquaculture (ARA), a voluntary program aimed at improving water quality and reducing stocking densities among participating farmers. This alliance operates mainly in India, where FWI works closely with local farmers to enhance fish health and welfare.
Research and Development
